Frequently Asked Questions

How does iCloud sync work?

Hatch automatically syncs your patterns, inventory, and shopping list across all your Apple devices signed into the same iCloud account. Changes appear on other devices within moments. Make sure iCloud is enabled for Hatch in Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Apps Using iCloud.

Can I use Hatch without iCloud?

Yes. Your data is stored locally on your device and works fully offline. iCloud sync is automatic when available but not required.

How does the shopping list work?

Hatch looks at the materials required by your fly patterns and compares them to your current inventory. Anything that's low or out of stock automatically appears on your shopping list. When you purchase items, add them to your inventory and the shopping list updates itself.

Can I share patterns with friends?

Yes! Use the export feature to save your patterns as a JSON file, then share it via AirDrop, email, or any file-sharing method. Your friend can import the file into their copy of Hatch.

What does the barcode scanner do?

Point your camera at a product barcode to look up the item name and brand automatically. This makes adding new materials to your inventory quick and easy. The scanner works with most common barcode formats.

Is my data private?

Absolutely. Your data is stored on your device and in your private iCloud container. We do not have access to your patterns, inventory, or any personal information. See our privacy policy below for full details.

Privacy Policy

Data Storage

All your data (fly patterns, inventory, photos) is stored locally on your device and optionally synced to your private iCloud container. We never store your data on our servers.

Data Collection

Hatch uses Sentry for anonymous crash reporting to help us fix bugs and improve the app. This includes basic device information and crash logs. No personal data, patterns, or inventory information is ever included in crash reports.

Barcode Lookups

When you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent to a third-party product database (UPCitemDB) to retrieve the product name. No other information is shared.

Camera & Photos

Hatch requests camera and photo library access only to let you add images to your fly patterns and materials. Photos are stored locally and in your iCloud container. They are never uploaded elsewhere.

Hatch uses the following third-party services:
Apple iCloud / CloudKit — for data sync across your devices
